FARMACIE 6.0 - The Benefactor || Girlvana Yoga
The North Shore community is full of so many good things and good people. Looking at the landscape of our upcoming dinner, we knew there was huge potential to contribute to an amazing program that has its roots in North Vancouver.
Specifically, one that’s contributing to elevating the next generation of the most high-potential and influential people on the globe: teen girls.
Alex Mazerolle—founder of Girlvana Yoga and co-founder/co-owner of DISTRIKT Movement—started Girlvana in 2012 when she was actively teaching in the Vancouver yoga community. Knowing the impact that yoga, meditation and mindfulness practices had on her own life and healing long term disordered eating through the practice, she set out to create that same experience for girls aged 13 - 18 on the North Shore.
Out to empower teen girls, the program has evolved to being more than yoga classes in high schools. And, the relationships Alex has built with the teens who visit classes far surpass a student-teacher dynamic: it’s true mentorship, safe space to come undone, and a place to be their truest, most honest and real form of themselves. They’re a group of grounded, self aware, connected girls who live with confidence and bravery. That’s nothing to shake a yoga mat at.
Girlvana Yoga classes operate in schools, dance studios and gyms across North Vancouver, Vancouver, and multiple lower mainland communities. Alex also hosts two retreats a year—Spring and Summer Break—on Galiano Island; an immersive experience filled with yoga, meditation, journalling, time in nature, crafting, nutritious food and mentorship. And, most recently, Girlvana Yoga has launched a Teacher Training to spread the message, methodology, philosophy and experience to more teens across Canada and the United States.
